How to See an Instagram Profile Picture in Full Size
Instagram shows profile photos at a tiny size and won't let you tap to enlarge. Here's how to see the full-resolution version.
Instagram renders profile pictures at a thumbnail size and gives you no way to expand one. Tapping does nothing. The larger file does exist, though.
Why you cannot just tap it
The app deliberately has no enlarge gesture on avatars. The image is served at a small size in the feed, but a higher-resolution version sits on Instagram's CDN for use elsewhere in the interface.
Getting the full-size version
- Open the public profile in a viewer
- The avatar loads at full resolution rather than a feed thumbnail
- Download it on a paid plan if you need to keep a copy
A note on private accounts
For private accounts, even the avatar is restricted. If a site claims to pull profile pictures from locked accounts, it is the same scam as private profile viewers.
For public accounts it is straightforward, and no screenshot-and-crop is needed.
