Instagram Highlights: How They Work and How to Save Them
Highlights are stories that never expire. That makes them the most useful part of a public profile, and the easiest to archive.
Highlights are stories the owner chose to keep. Unlike the 24-hour version, they sit on the profile indefinitely, which makes them the richest public part of most accounts.
Why highlights matter
Brands use them for product lines and FAQs. Creators use them as portfolios. Because they persist, they are usually a better picture of an account than the last nine grid posts.
Viewing without appearing
Watching a highlight while logged in can register a view the same way a story does. Fetching it through a viewer means the request never comes from your account, so nothing is logged against you.
Saving them
- Highlights viewing is available on Basic and Pro
- Highlight downloads are a Pro feature
- Saved items land in your Library like any other media
Active 24-hour stories are a different thing and are not fetched. Highlights are the part that stays put, and the part worth archiving.
