Can Someone Tell If You View Their Instagram? Here's What's Actually Visible

February 2, 2026

Instagram is vague about what's actually tracked. Here's a clear breakdown of what the app reveals about who's watching, and what stays private.

Profile visits: private

Instagram does not tell anyone who viewed their profile or how many times. There's no profile visitors feature, despite what sketchy apps claim. Browsing someone's grid is invisible.

Story and reel views: visible

Stories are the big exception. The poster sees a full list of everyone who watched. Reels show a view count but not individual names unless you like or comment.

Screenshots: mostly private

For regular posts and stories, Instagram does not notify users when you screenshot. The only place screenshots are flagged is disappearing photos and videos sent in a direct message.

How to stay fully private

The only category that exposes you is story views. Viewing through InstaLurk routes the request through our servers, so even stories can be watched without showing up on anyone's list.
